It was our first project in Dundee School of Architecture Yr 1. The objective of this project is to create a place that has not been existed before. Students from year 1 and year 2 mixed up to form small groups to complete a final design around the beach area. Our team consisted of two senior girls from Russia, me, Carina and Peter. It isn't hard to imagine how difficult we discussed our plans in English which none of us were quiet familiar with. Nevertheless, we did a great job in the end of the 3 hrs.
The weather was really crucial on that day. We were facing the cold rainy winds beside the North Sea! After a short brainstorm, we decided a brief plan to make a boat and introduce seawater in to our place.
-collection of materials-
Our yr1s went to the forest nearby to collect some branches and grasses, and the yr2 girls walked beyond the wet beach searching for the location.
The final plan was to build a boat head rising from the water ground and facing the sea. With the coming tide from the sea, our boat-shaped place was no longer restricted in its fixed place, but had a tendency to interact with the environment, come out of the water and flow into the seawater again.
-starting to build on the shape, our senior was laying out the shells inside the boat-
-the shape of our boat raised out from the sands-
-the branches were used to redefine the shape of the waterside and merge the edge of the boat into water-

-final place created-

-details: shells laid inside the boat-

-the front view seemed to be rigid enough with those round shells-
-some blank area without shells covering, made it more naturally integrated with the sand base-
Your shells texture is ace ... it looks like the underside of a hump-backed whale ... all stripey.
ReplyDeleteExcellent sculpture.
Thanks a lot :)! I love the texture most and it was a wonderful idea from our yr2 seniors :P
